Where: Selfridges London, Concept Store in the Wonder Room
When: Wednesday 22 June – Sunday 31 July

Tracey Emin reveals her personal tastes in a new installation in which art and shopping collide.

Selfridges welcomes an unusual commission by Tracey Emin within its London store from Wednesday 22 June. The commission, entitled, Walking Around My World, is a special collaboration with Selfridges for Emin International, the artist's limited edition print company.

Tracey will take over the 140sqm space of the Concept Store, a location dedicated to installations and temporary themed concept shops within Selfridges' Wonder Room, and fill it with a surprising mix of her favourite items from the London store. These will be organised across the space in clusters and are meant to give a new insight into Tracey's lifestyle and tastes.

Unsurprisingly for those who already know Tracey's love of furry animals and cats in particular, they will feature prominently, including her own cat Docket. However other items such as Cath Kidston knitted characters or the presence of Selfridges' resident mediums, Psychic Sisters, will be more unexpected. Dozens of products will be exhibited alongside a collection of products designed by Tracey and selected from Emin International.

Some of the products on sale from Emin International have been created exclusively for this unique Selfridges commission. Among the exclusive items will be a limited edition print of an iconic Tracey Emin image based on the monoprint Walking Around My World (1998). Only 300 prints are available, priced at £275. In a new departure, Tracey in collaboration with Thomas Goode fine bone china, has created an exclusive edition of 100 Picasso-inspired plates, using a never-before-seen drawing. More items launched for the first time in this collaboration include a china bowl featuring Docket the cat, priced at £30.

Walking Around My World, will include a book selection by Tracey that will feature the artist's monographs and the newly published 'My Life In A Column', a collection of the weekly diary columns she has written for The Independent.

Tracey has been given carte blanche by Selfridges to fill five of the store's largest windows surrounding the Concept Store. In the largest of all Selfridges' twenty seven windows, Window 20 – at the corner of Duke Street and Oxford Street – will stand a giant photograph of Tracey and a new neon artwork.

This will be a nod to the artist's current blockbuster exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, her first ever major retrospective in London. The book from the Hayward Gallery exhibition will be sold as part of the book collection assembled for Walking Around My World.

The business was founded by American entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge in 1909 as an example of the first modern department store. Gordon Selfridge ran the store himself until he retired in 1940. After several ownerships the company was de-merged from the Sears Group in 1998 and floated on the London Stock Exchange. In 2003 W. Galen Weston purchased Selfridges and under his ownership Selfridges has become a UK destination for fashion and luxury. In June 2010 Selfridges was named Best Department Store in the World by the IGDS (Intercontinental Group of Department Stores) and the IADS (International Association of Department Stores). Selfridges has 6,400 employees with four stores in London, Birmingham and Manchester (Trafford Centre, Exchange Square). For more information visit selfridges.com.
